Katharine Nehls, Senior Pictures, Noelle Bell Photography, Farragut High School

Finally we captured Katharine’s individual high school senior pictures.  What fun we had with her in her favorite outfits with hair and makeup all done up.  She was just stunning!  Here’s a sneak peek from that shoot.

This pictures encompasses so much of what Katharine loves.   Coffee, books and a comfy sweaters all while curled up in a good chair to read.  She brought the books and the sweater and I brought the coffee in my signature red Starbucks mug.

My seniors, 12 years in the making, Noelle Bell Photography

This is a very special year for me.  A year that is here by the grace of God and because I obeyed the Lord many years ago and let go of what I never wanted to let go of.  To tell you the story, I’ll have to take you back to when I first came to Knoxville, TN.  Suffice it to say this is a story with length so I’ll leave out a few things, like how God brought me to TN, but when I arrived in the fall of 2003 I began looking for a way to work with the youth in the area.  I had previously worked with the youth in Lynchburg, VA for about 12 years, and my college degree at Liberty University was Church ministries with a concentration on Youth Ministries.  I never felt the call on my life to be a pastor (Lordy you don’t want this crazy child to lead them in that role), but I had a clear calling for youth my sophomore year at Liberty.   Being a part of their life,  loving on them, doing fun and crazy things with them, (like Wal-Mart at midnight just for kicks) and just being there to do life with them.  I could share so many stories.

The Lord closed all doors to youth ministries to me here in Knoxville when I arrived and began looking for a place to serve.  Youth for Christ, Young Life, Fellowship’s youth group, and many other places.  I was pretty lost, so unsure of why God was closing all these doors.  When my small group leader, Dee, asked if perhaps God was calling me to a period of rest – well surely I didn’t need rest…why would He need me to do that?  But then again, He was.  When I finally got that through my head and said okay God I’ll rest, I had peace and knew He was calling me to that, even if I didn’t understand the why of it.  Little did I know that He had plans of His own just around the corner.

Summer came and with it Children’s ministry!  The church began asking for leaders for each grade and my friend Ken came to me and asked if I would work the same grade with him so that if either one of us wanted a weekend away we could go and one of us would still be there for the kids.  Okay, sure.  So we started with this group of rising 1st graders.  Benji, Olivia, Nathan, Katie, Naomi, Carissa and others who have come and gone through the years.  I never really knew that there was anything beyond the summer for me in this ministry and I loved these kids dearly, but this was a God thing and there were many more pieces yet to be discovered in this story.

That summer came and went and then the next summer Ken and I decided to do it again and keep the same kids so we had the rising 2nd graders.  This again did not register as any kind of a God story until the summer was winding down.  There was a desperate need to have leaders for the children’s ministries team.  It took me some time to finally respond to the tugging of the Lord on my heart to serve.  It wasn’t high school, but I had a relationship with the kids after two summers and in no time it grew to a deeper relationship including the parents as well.

I began to take the kids on outings, and yes the parents trusted me with their kiddos’, which to me was such a privilege and SO MUCH FUN!  Movies downtown were fun with some of the boys who all opted to get suicide soda’s – aka…a little bit of soda from each of the soda fountains tap (yes a combo of Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Dr. Pepper and whatever else was there). Can we say sugar rush!   All of these were fun even when we went to Mast General Store afterwards and I let the kids get even more candy.  (I’m such a good aunt!)  It’s a wonder those parents let me take them out again after getting their sugared up children back.

And there were soccer games to attend.

And then getting being invited to the “North Knoxville gatherings” as the “west Knoxvillian”, and becoming more involved with the kids and the parents in a fun and laid back setting.   I had an in as most of the kids there were the kids that I had in Sunday School.

And the journey continued into their 5th grade year.  Right before I got married and when my soon to be husband and I took 4 of the kids out to a movie and then ice cream and then took them home.  I’ll never forget “The Wheels on the Bus” by Carson and his many many made up verses to the song, and Brittany’s steel nerves as she sat in the back seat quietly not saying a thing.  I think i learned how far it really was from west Knoxville to his house that night!

My wedding rolled around and 4 of the kids came with their families.  I was thrilled to have them there and their families attend.

Then began their middle school crazy years.  I must admit I’m not a fan of middle school changes and the extreme amount of energy the kids have and I think I know that God has NOT called me to work with that age group.   I was going back to school for photography at that time, so I was the “photographer” during those years and held no formal title or role in their lives, but watched two dear ladies (Mandy and Tracy) love them well.  I was blessed to be able to watch them grow and still be a part of their lives.  Those years however, were the beginning of a huge change for me.  I had loved photography for a long time and had never taken the advise of my parents to pursue it until now.  This was finally the time and I knew right away that a change was coming.

I knew I wanted more time to spend with the kids at events and just time to be a part of their busy lives as they began high school.  However working a full-time job, part time job photography,  youth group as well as family and more.  It was becoming too much.  I was offered severance to leave the wonderful job that I had been at at Scripps Networks for the past 8 years, and I knew this was the right move.   After prayer and deliberation with my husband, the company and my parents, it was agreed and a few months later I made the move to work full-time as a portrait photographer.  I hadn’t full decided to mainly work with high over the years.

So all of that to finally arrive at this year, Summer of ’15, where these kids that have been a part of my life for 12 years,  7 years, 4 years and some a number in between, these are my kiddos’!  I love them and this summer and this year I have the privilege and joy of spending time with them, creating memories, laughing, drinking coffee, eating Brewster’s ice cream and most fun of all doing creative photo shoots and their specialized senior photos as well.  We have already had 2 outings and a third happens this Sunday.  These kids are truly getting a senior experience that most likely might never happen again, nor could I ever dreamed of having.  So thank you Lord for your unexpected ways, the twist and the turns and the relationships I’ve made along the way.  I’m looking forward to many more fun times this year before you all graduate and head off to college.  I love you all and look forward to photographing you and creating a senior portrait experience like no other with you.

It’s been a busy April and May and gearing up for a busy summer as the 2016 seniors sessions begin!   About a month ago Raegan Kennedy, one of my junior reps from last year and now one of my class of 2016 seniors, and I got together to do her last junior model shoot with Noelle Bell Photography.  We had so much fun and got some amazing images of her with some outfits from Southern Charm Boutique in Oliver Springs, where she does some modeling for the owner.  We also captured some images of her in one of the prom dresses that she wore to one of the two proms she attended this spring.  So here are some of my favorite images from this session.

PPETN Workshop, Noelle Bell Photography, Knoxville TN

Last week, myself and over 40+ members of the Professional Photographers of East Tennessee held a workshop at one of our members studio in Maryville, TN.  Gena Tussey of Stationhouse Photography graciously offered her studio to us where we had the opportunity to shoot with various studio lights and light modifiers.  We had three wonderful models who did a phenomenal job.  Katie dressed up in cos-play, Liz wore a dress from Wedding Wonderland, and Raegan Kennedy, one of my high school senior models, brought some new outfits from Southern Charm Boutique in Oliver Springs, TN.

I didn’t have a lot of time to shoot because we had so many members show up and I helped with one of the stations for a bit.  It is such an honor to have colleagues that want help from each other and work together to improve their skill sets.  Here are some of the images Noelle Bell Photography captured from the night.

Cameron Kuerschen, Grace Christian Academy, Senior Portraits, Noelle Bell Photography

Noelle Bell Photography had a wonderful time capturing Cameron Kuerschen’s senior pictures this last month.  Cameron will be graduating from Grace Christian Academy in May and will head off to East Tennessee State University in Johnson City, TN in the fall to play football there.

We started his senior portraits at Grace Christian Academy on the football field and captured some gritty and casual pictures with him in his football jersey.  The sun was shining high in the sky and though it was a little bright we captured some amazing images both on the field and around the stadium.  Cameron was so patient with me and his mom as we plotted out each image.

Here are some images from the field at Grace Christian Academy.

We ended the senior session with some images when we had the most magnificent sunset where all the clouds in the sky seemed to point right to Cameron.

And this was by far a favorite image of mine.  I love to capture an image of the parent with their soon to be graduate, and this is an image of Kathy and Cameron with that beautiful sunset in the background.  Kathy is a wonderful mom that has done a great job in raising her son to be sweet and kind and well-behaved.  (I was called ma’am a lot by Cameron)  Thank you so much for letting me capture what I know will be a special moment for you in years to come….letterman jacket and all!  Senior Pictures, Senior Boy, Football, Field, Barn, Noelle Bell Photography, Mother and SonThis was such a fun senior session and I can’t wait for them to see these images in their finished products.

Parker Griffith, Jefferson Forest High School Senior, Class of 2015, Lacrosse

Senior year came around fast for me it seems with Parker Griffith.   But I remember Parker from when I babysat him and we sang along to Alvin and the Chipmunks and it seems like that was just a few years ago, either that or I’m getting old!  I’m in denial  😉

This was such a fun time for me and his mom Becky!  We got to go in buildings that were being renovated, after getting permission from the contractor who invited us in, his mom got to throw water balloons at him, and then we went into a dark barn to capture what in his brother Austin’s words, “he should be in a Gatorade ad”…hmmm I wonder….

So here are some of Parker’s senior pictures from Lynchburg, VA featuring his Jefferson Forest lacrosse team pictures.  The last one is my favorite!

Sydney Faulkenberry, Class of 2014 Senior Karns High School, Knoxville TN

This past year getting to know Sydney Faulkenberry has been a lot of fun.  She has a gorgeous smile, is very confident and speaks her mind.  To a northern gal like me that is speaking my language.   Sydney is a class of 2014 senior at Karns High School, she is a swimmer and she comfotable with who she is.  Because Sydney is one of Noelle Bell Photography‘s senior spokesmodel’s we did multiple sessions.  We had a lot of fun capturing her first session where she rocked her images both in the studio and in a field of tall wheat grass.

Karns High School Senior Pictures Knoxville TN Karns High School Senior Pictures Knoxville TN

Then we did her outdoor sessions in the summer and captured some beautiful images.  Sydney wanted a barn for the outdoor session and I absolutely love the one of her in the loft with the golden light of the evening sun shining on her, as well as the field shots.  We had some beautiful sunset so the warm tones were beautiful as they hit her already blonde hair.

The final session we decided to head to the UT Aquatics center where the Karns High School Swim Team practices and they graciously allowed us to go in as there were no events going on.  Sydney got in some great practice on her strokes, and we played with different angles, and these were some of the favorites.  I loved capturing these shots and had a blast even though I did get a parking ticket.

TN Theatre Styled Shoot

A meeting of coincidence allowed Noelle Bell Photography the opportunity to do a styled photo shoot at the TN Theatre.  With that kind of opportunity I also was able to work with many new vendors that I had been in conversation with for some time now like Bella Boutique, and a brand new friend in Raymie Alsobrooks who did an amazing job with makeup and brought along a friend who did a stunning job on the girls hair.

The historic TN theatre has always been a stunning place to go to see the Opera’s and musicals that I love, so the chance to photograph inside the theatre was amazing.  I did not want the traditional shots of the theatre, but my own creative images to showcase high school seniors, prom or homecoming dresses from Bella Boutique that I was photographing.  A huge thank you goes out to the TN theatre for the time they allowed us to photograph there.  I can’t wait to share the images with you.  Here are two of the images that I captured from Monday’s session.

This one is Molly in the stunning lobby of the theatre.  Molly is in musical theatre at Bearden High School, so the location was a perfect fit for her.  When were were trying on dresses she said she had never worn a blue dress before, but I think this color looked amazing on her!

Noelle Bell Photography, Knoxville TN, Prom Dress, Bella BoutiqueMadison is one of my Senior Spokesmodels from Clinton High School who also came for this shoot and had the opportunity to dance on the stage of the TN Theatre as well as model another dress from Bella Boutique.  Madison also was a perfect fit for this shoot as she has been dancing for years with Dream Dance in Clinton, TN.  I know she would love to come back and dance on this stage professionally someday.

Jennifer Cowan 2014 Senior Pictures Halls High School, Knoxville TN Noelle Bell Photography

One of my senior spokesmodel’s Lindsay, referred Jennifer to Noelle Bell Photography, and Jennifer has been such a pleasure to work with and get to know.  When we talked at the pre-consultation Jennifer got to see my cats and she asked if she could bring her 16lb black cat Midnight to join her for the shoot, and of course we made that happen!  We love when high school students include their pets in their senior pictures, especially when they mean as much to them as Midnight means to Jennifer.

We started out in the studio and got some pictures of Midnight and Jennifer and then some of Midnight all by himself.

Then Jennifer wanted to play with some glitter, so we did.  I absolutely love how all of those images came out and I can’t believe how much glitter covered her jeans, I should have taken a picture of that.  Here is my favorite image from that set.

Jennifer Senior Portraits Halls High School Knoxville TN Class of 2014

Jennifer is an artist in her own right and she brought some of her finished and in process works of art to showcase that part of her personality and her unique talent.  We chose the UT Gardens for the setting of these pictures and thanks to the use of a beautiful artists easel and the gorgeous setting these images came out wonderful.

Then we headed to Market Square and captured some images of Jennifer with the lights of the square and then some by the Oliver Hotel.
